Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
PHTLS courses provide a prehospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the need to treat the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities. PHTLS courses are based on Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), a course for physicians developed by the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma. More importantly, the PHTLS course follows the principles of care of trauma patients as developed by the Committee on Trauma.
Life EMS offers a hybrid PHTLS course. At your convenience you will complete about 8 hours of online (didactic) training, then come in for an eight-hour skills day to complete the course. This hybrid course requires that you have a computer and internet access.
